A MedTECH tenants is offering a service to NHS Trusts which can reduce treatment costs by eliminating unnecessary expensive referrals whilst improving speed and quality of patient care.

The MedTECH Centre's first tenant secures further funding to develop a ground-breaking treatment for victims of strok and brain injuries.

The addition of Biomedoc to the MedTECH Centre takes the number of clients to nine.

BioEden, an international biotech business specialising in stem cell research, needed a different way to conduct its tests. TrusTECH connected the company to laboratories in Central Manchester, enabling it to apply different methodologies. In addition, TrusTECH provided them with contacts in the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) which enabled BioEden to change their business model. 

Dr Michael Buist, an intensive care consultant in Australia, became very concerned about preventable deaths, injuries and complications among patients already in the care of hospitals. He determined to find out what could be done to reduce the incidence and impact of these adverse events. With help from TrusTECH, a joint venture partner in the MedTECH Centre, his revolutionary system is now keeping NHS patients safe in Manchester 24/7. 

A spin-out company from the UK’s Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Microvisk, has developed the world’s first medical diagnostic strip based on a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) with help from TrusTECH, the Northwest’s NHS Innovation Hub. The technology was originally created as a movement system for nano-robots on space probes by the STFC for planetary exploration. TrusTECH is a joint venture partner in the MedTECH Centre. 

A new disinfectant which TrusTECH^TM, a joint venture partner in the MedTECH Centre,  tested in an NHS hospital outperforms the existing NHS gold standard - hypochlorite bleach - delivering a 33% improvement on overall surface hygiene including environmental MRSA.

Maggie Philbin, who regularly provides comment on technology for the BBC, revealed the winners at a glittering award ceremony in Glasgow last night which recognises the impact of intellectual assets from research. Amongst the winners was TrusTECH^TM, a joint venture partner of the MedTECH Centre.

Phagenesis has raised £2m of investment to support the development of a new class of treatments for stroke patients who suffer from dysphagia.

Medtech Centre is running an event on 18 February entitled 'Investment Funding for SME's' at the Core Technology Facility, Grafton Street, Manchester. The event will start at 10am, and have Richard Harvey of Angel Network, Penny Attridge of Spark Ventures and Mark Fahy of the London Stock Exchange presenting.
